Are Lash Extensions right for you?

What does your morning makeup routine look like? Wash face. Apply toners, serums and lotion. Prep skin for foundation. Apply eyeliner. And to top it off, apply mascara for a complete look.

Putting on makeup every morning takes enough time as it is! Eyelash extensions give you the opportunity to simplify your routine, get some time back for yourself, and get going on whatever the day holds for you.

For those unfamiliar with eyelash extensions, regular lash extension maintenance is crucial to keeping them healthy and for those committed to keeping a fresh look, be prepared for getting them serviced regularly.

How long do Lash Extensions Last?

Lash Extensions can last indefinitely with regular re-lashes. After your initial full set, it’s recommended that you come back within two weeks in order to gauge fallout and maintenance needs for your specific set of lashes. Each person is unique, therefore the re-lash recommendation ranges between 2-3 weeks.

Now onto environmental factors. Eyelash extension longevity varies and depends on the products you use during your skincare routine, weather, temperature, humidity, heat, sweat, sauna exposure, friction, oils, glycols, and other agents that could break down the glue. Outside of an air-conditioned building, we cannot control the weather, temperature, and humidity levels. This can become a problem in areas with high precipitation and humidity. High precipitation and humidity will not allow the glue to cure or dry properly. Because the glue has a difficult time drying in these conditions, premature extension loss can be inevitable. On top of this, excess sweat using any products around your eyes that can break down the glue and sleeping on your face can cause premature extension loss.

How do Lash Extensions work?

The most asked question I receive on the daily is, "How do eyelash extensions work?"

An eyelash service is considered eyelash extensions when your natural lashes are isolated in order to glue an extension on the lashes.

The lash extension can consist of one individual extension or if getting volume extensions, it can be anywhere from two to five extensions per individual natural lash. Volume eyelash extensions are a different, more advanced technique from the classic one to one technique. If your natural lashes are not isolated one by one, then the service is not being performed correctly. Strip lashes and clusters do not constitute as eyelash extensions as they do not isolate natural lashes and the glue used is an over the counter glue that lasts about 24hrs. Eyelash extension glue is a medical grade glue that can hold the extension in place anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks.

The first full set of eyelash extensions can take anywhere from 2 hours to 2.5 hours, depending on how many natural, healthy lashes you have. I always strive to get every single natural lash within the time period of your appointment! After this, lash fills can range from an hour to an hour and a half. After the 24-hr. curing period for your extensions, they should last indefinitely with regular fill-ins.
